The decadence of the 80s (Part 34).

Today I decided to introduce you another 'one-hit-wonder' of the 80s I found shortly somewhere, even if I knew the song for so, so long. And from time to time I'm aware that this one still got its airplays, which is happening more and more lately to old songs, being then so thankful for. To make a long speech short I combined the two released versions (vocal and instrumental) to get a really nice lenght for having an easy and nice listen to this special tune. ENJOY! Floyd Anderson.

The decadence of the 80s (Part 33).

Heute wird wieder eine Produktion aus Deutschland vorgestellt, welche die Musikgeschcithe nachhaltig beeinflussen sollte, ohne allerdings eine wirkliche musikalische Qualitaet hervorzubringen. Aber nach diesem Lied kamen viele andere, und der religioes anmutende 'Geregioranische Choral', ein bis dahin nur Spezialisten zugaenglicher Gesangsstil, wurde quasi ueber Nacht salonfaehig, und die Verkaufszahlen schnellten nach oben.
Hinter diesem Projekt stand (und steht auch noch heute) der rumaenisch staemmige Musiker und Produzent MICHAEL CRETU, der seit Mitte der 70er mit wechselndem Erfolg Platten veroeffentlichte. In diesem Musikprojekt gab er sich aber nicht gleich zu erkennen, sondern nannte sich CURLY MC, weil sein Haar damals gelockt war. Mit seiner Frau SANDRA, die selbst in den 80ern einige musikalische Erfolge feiern konnte, als stimmliche Ergaenzung, ergab sich schlagartig ein Traumpaar der Popmusik.
Da mir die veroeffentlichte Version auf der CD nicht zusagte, legte ich 2001 (in meiner ersten CD Mix Phase also) selbst Hand an und schuf es mir so wie's mir gefiel und noch immer gefaellt. ENJOY! Floyd Anderson.

The classical masterpieces (Part 6).

Einige postings zuvor (nur fuer aufmerksamste blogger zu sehen) ;-) habe ich schon auf das unglaubliche Talent des heute vorzustellenden Komponisten und Musikers hingewiesen. Dass dieser in den 80er Jahren dem ausgesprochen legendaeren und von mir vielgepriesenen englischen music label ZTT (Zang Tuum Tumb) hold war, freut mich umso mehr, da es 'back in those days' ganz offensichtlich noch moeglich war, avantgardistische neue Musik zu veroeffentlichen. Diesen Pioniergeist vermisse ich heutzutage bei den populaeren Labeln wirklich sehr.
Ein meisterhaftes Stueck 'minimal music' wird hier und heute vorgestellt. Schon der Titel erklaert die Charakteristik des Liedes, wo in einer sogenannten 'freien Episode' (in einem Konzert) dem Solisten die Moeglichkeit zur Improvisation gegeben wird. Dies wird hier, meiner Meinung nach, bis zur absoluten Grenze ausgekostet und stellt fuer mich eine extreme Gratwanderung zwischen der minimalistischen Musik und der modernen Klassik dar. Ausserdem traegt das Stueck den Zuhoerer auf einer angenehmen, weichen Welle akustischer Gefuehlsebene und bewirkt, so wie es wohl in dieser Musik des oefteren vorkommen mag, bei intensivem Genuss einen tranceaehnlichen Glueckszustand. Da bleibt mir nur zu sagen: Viel Freude beim Geniessen!

The classical masterpieces (Part 5).

Die naechsten zwei postings beschaeftigen sich wieder mit klassischer Musik und beinhalten Musikstuecke, welche nicht nur in ihrer Form, sondern auch in ihrem Titel bezeichnend sind, zuerst das Nocturne und danach die Cadenza.
Das Nocturne ist eine in der Zeit des Barock entstandene Form der klassischen Musik, die in ihrer Besetzung und Satzstruktur nicht festgelegt ist. In der heutigen Wahrnehmung verbinden sich mit dem Nocturne allerdings vor allem Charakterstuecke fuer Klavier aus der Zeit der Romantik.
Der heute von mir vorzustellende aeusserst talentierte Kuenstler verband mit diesem Stueck die Romantik perfekt mit der Neuzeit. Dieser Komponist, Pianist und Saenger ist seit Ende der 70er Jahre im Geschaeft und hat Aufnahmen in vielen verschiedenen Musikstilen veroeffentlicht, vom Jive ueber die Popmusik (inkl. Hitparadenehren!), zur Klassik, bis hin zum Hardrock.
Bitte geniesst diese moderne Nocturne mit dem Hauch von Romantik, sie laesst euch traeumen von einer besseren Welt.

The decadence of the 80s (Part 32).

Sometimes I will be asked to do something for somebody in case of music. Then I feel very special and very honoured. A few weeks ago, and that's not the first time, I again was asked by Denmark's own Niels, who runs a fantastic fan website of a great band from England, they let us have their inspirative music since 1978, to do something special to appear on his latest project 'fan mix of the month'. And I said yes, and I said thank you, and I did something special hopefully, and now he released it on this section of his website. Therefore again I have to say thank you. Below you can find some lovely words he found and also a nice artwork he did. So there really is nothing more to say than ENJOY! Floyd Anderson.

Floyd Anderson, aka Chronovisor, makes a welcome return this month and you may remember him for the excellent re-edit he did of Seconds for the Dare 2007 Fan Mix project. You can check that mix and his other details out here. This time round he's made a re-edit of a single that to this day has divided fans. Soundtrack To A Generation was written by Philip Oakey/Neil Sutton, produced by Bob Kraushaar and released October 1990. Reaching the dizzy heights of no 77 in the UK Singles Charts, it was the bands worst chart position since the early days of putting out singles in the late 70s. And it was the first sign of the struggle that was to last through the early 90s as they broke with Virgin Records after releasing the single. It sounded like one of the tracks from the Romantic? album with hit potential and boasted a great chorus and some nippy electro doodelings. But many fans couldn't really get past the "oh wow, holy cow" bit, which in fairness maybe wasn't Oakey's finest lyrical moment. That lyrical faux pas is still included in Floyd's mix, but he has done a great job in creating a ol' fashioned extended version that the original release lacked (even if the Orbit Mix did come close). Using the original version, as well as the acapella version, it builds up nicely and really gives you the feel of a classic 12" mix.
